That's why we've created an annual getaway designed to empower women, spiritually refresh them, and equip them with strategies to live successful lives. My Story
Dr. Angela Marie Brunson was born in Oakland, CA on September 20th, 1961, to Willard and Judith Miller. She is the third of six children born to this union. Shortly after her birth, her father Willard Miller received a permanent change of station order from the U.S. Navy and moved the family to San Diego, CA. Dr. Brunson still resides in San Diego to this day. A product of the San Diego Unified School District, Angela attended multiple local schools including graduating from Madison High School. Dr. Brunson attended Bay Vista Beauty College where she earned her license in cosmetology. There her passion for empowering women began to bloom. In the spring of 1983, Angela met the love of her life, U.S. Navy sailor Stephen Brunson. After falling head over heels in love, they were united in holy matrimony on May 5, 1983. As a result of their union, they have four beautiful children and one granddaughter.
Throughout her life, Dr. Angela has always been an encourager to women, helping them on their path to empowerment. She was a sales director with Mary Kay cosmetics before becoming a co-pastor where she spends her time helping the inner cities of San Diego. A direct result of her diligent work within local communities, Dr. Angela received her Honorary Doctor of Divinity in 2004 from Elbon Solutions in Apple Valley, CA. As co-pastor of the City of Praise Church, she began the Women In Red (WIR) annual retreat in 2003. This retreat has become a Southern California tradition which has aimed to empower women, help foster a sense of community, and spiritually rejuvenate all women who attend. WIR has a rich history, beginning as a simple conference for the local church but has now transformed into an event for women of all backgrounds to learn how to become their most confident selves. Dr. Angela has devoted the last 20 years of her life to enriching the WIR experience and is looking forward to what the future has in store.
